When the Patriots Play, Homebuyers Stay Away
Football takes precedence over home buying, even in today’s hot real estate market in Boston, Hingham, Weymouth, Dorchester, Mattapan, Milton, Cape Cod,and throughout Eastern Massachusetts. With the New England Patriots chalking up an swell season so far, we Bay-Staters are glued to our TVs on Sundays (and the occasional Monday or Thursday).
So, even though Sunday is generally one of the most popular days for open houses, 64% of Massachusetts Realtors® say they will not schedule one when the Patriots play. That figure comprises four percent who avoid all Sundays during football season; 20 percent who avoid Sundays when the Patriots are playing; and 40 percent who schedule their open houses either before or after the games. However, 37% percent of the respondents still schedule open houses when it is most convenient for their clients – even when Tom Brady and teammates are on the field.
“We love our pro sports teams here in Massachusetts and Realtors know that and keep that in mind when it comes to scheduling open houses,” said MAR President Corinne Fitzgerald. “Holding an open house while the Patriots are playing may be a bust, so many clients decide to plan their open house at a different time or day.”
