Construction on Boston Children’s Hospital’s pedestrian bridge over Longwood Avenue underway in earnest
Long-planned span will mean safer, more direct connection between hospital and parking facilities Construction for a long-planned pedestrian bridge over Longwood Avenue for Boston Children’s Hospital is moving along, with a special crane last week laying down a 100-foot-long piece of steel for the project—the first of three to eventually be installed.
The pedestrian bridge will connect a parking garage to a new lobby on the hospital’s fourth floor. Right now, staff and patients—and their families—have to cross a busy section of Longwood to access the hospital via an atrium. The project also means new restrooms in that new lobby, new staff locker rooms, and two new elevators, never mind 70 fresh parking spaces. The project is supposed to wrap by late 2019.
